Program License Checks
Checking a New Jersey Treatment License
Match a program’s name, address, and service type with official state information.
First posted: · Revised on: · 7 minute guide · Written by Christopher Veto, NCACIP

A polished website is not proof of a treatment license. Use New Jersey resources and direct questions to check the provider behind an offer.
Look up the exact service address
Start with NJ DMHAS substance-use resources and the state treatment directory. Compare the listed service with what admissions says it offers.
- Check the legal operator’s name
- Match the location where care would occur
- Ask about any mismatch before committing
Separate licensing from other claims
Licensing, professional credentials, national accreditation, and insurance networks answer different questions. One does not prove the others, and none promises an outcome.
Keep a record of your checks
Save the listing and note whom you spoke with. Hudson County mental-health and addiction services can be another local resource; Hudenson’s can help organize referrals but is not a licensing agency.

Decisions and services outside our role

Ask About Free Placement and Referrals
Leave contact details and a general topic for your search. Hudenson's helps you connect with independent programs, not receive medical care here. Providers assess needs and approve admission.
Do not use this form for urgent help. Dial 911 for a medical emergency. For emotional distress or a substance use crisis, call or text 988 instead of waiting for a reply.
Common Reader Questions
Does a referral prove a program is licensed?
A referral is not a license check; verify the service and location with official state resources.
What if the address differs?
Ask the operator to explain the difference and confirm the actual treatment site before traveling or paying.
Can a network listing replace this check?
A plan’s network directory addresses participation, not every licensing or service question.
