Care Options and Referrals
Sorting Through Addiction Care in Jersey City
Use your needs, daily routine, and provider assessment to guide the next treatment conversation.

Hudenson’s is a free detox and rehab placement service, not a healthcare provider. We help people reach outside programs that make their own care and admission decisions.
Learn the main care settings
Withdrawal management addresses withdrawal; rehab may include overnight treatment or visits while living at home. Medication and mental-health care may also be part of a provider’s plan.
- Ask who evaluates the need for care
- Check which services share the same location
- Discuss support after the initial program ends
Bring everyday needs into the search
Someone working Downtown may need a different schedule than a caregiver in the Heights. Discuss language access, transit, mobility, and family needs when comparing programs.
Choose with clear information
We can assist with contact and payment questions, but do not guarantee results or recommend care based on an online form. Use Hudson County services and state resources alongside direct provider conversations.
Understand what each level of care is meant to do
For a Jersey City resident, treatment is not a single service or building. Withdrawal management focuses on withdrawal needs, while ongoing treatment addresses substance use over time. SAMHSA describes standard outpatient visits, more intensive outpatient services, inpatient care, and residential care. A clinician can explain which setting matches your current health needs. Not everyone follows the same sequence, and not everyone needs an overnight stay before beginning outpatient treatment.
Standard outpatient care involves appointments followed by returning home. Intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization services offer more structured care than standard visits and may include individual sessions, groups, and coping skills. Inpatient care involves staying overnight in a hospital or treatment setting. Residential treatment means living at a program. Ask providers to explain their actual services in plain language; the word rehab by itself does not tell you the level of support.
Plan transitions instead of treating each service as a separate search
When comparing options in or beyond Hudson County, ask how the next step is arranged if your needs change. Who sends records with your permission? Who helps schedule follow-up? Will medication care and mental-health treatment be coordinated with substance use services? These questions help you understand responsibility across settings without assuming every service is available at one location. Ask which outside providers would be involved and how you would contact them.
A useful comparison sheet has one row for each provider and columns for care level, assessment process, medical support, and follow-up arrangements. Keep clinical questions separate from preferences such as location or visiting rules. Bring the sheet to your assessment so the clinician can explain the options. Hudenson’s provides free placement and referral help, including phone assistance checking benefits, but does not diagnose conditions or decide whether someone should move to a different level of care.

Ask About Free Placement and Referrals
Leave contact details and a general topic for your search. Hudenson's helps you connect with independent programs, not receive medical care here. Providers assess needs and approve admission.
Do not use this form for urgent help. Dial 911 for a medical emergency. For emotional distress or a substance use crisis, call or text 988 instead of waiting for a reply.
Common Reader Questions
Will I get counseling on this call?
Our role is placement assistance; counseling is delivered by the independent provider you choose.
Must everyone begin with detox?
Not everyone needs withdrawal management; a clinician should evaluate the appropriate starting point.
Can I ask about several types of care?
Yes; we can help you locate contacts for different settings so you can discuss fit with licensed providers.
Are medication and counseling separate levels of care?
They are treatment approaches that may be used in different settings, not automatic labels for a care level. Ask the provider which services are part of your proposed plan and who is responsible for coordinating them.
Can my care level change after treatment starts?
Needs can change. Ask the treating team how it reviews progress and arranges a different setting when appropriate. Do not assume a change means failure or that an initial referral commits you to one setting indefinitely.
